November 2012. I quit a safe six-figure job with one client, 30 days of money in the bank, my wife, Sara, and our three boys (all under age 10) at home. My first office was a wobbly card table with a box of soft pretzels holding up the laptop.
For years I’d told myself the timing wasn’t right. A friend finally looked at all of that and told me: “There will NEVER be a perfect time, Nemo. You just have to jump.”
So I jumped.
The first thing I did on the other side was rewrite my own LinkedIn profile, starting with the least glamorous headline in the history of marketing: “Debt Collection Agency Marketing Services.” Because that was my one client’s industry, and I needed more of them.
90 days later, that profile had generated $135,000 USD in new business from LinkedIn.

Everything since (the books, the agency, the hundreds of Done For You clients) grew out of the same discovery I made at that card table: On LinkedIn, the person who says it best wins, and almost nobody says it well.
Nothing in this system was figured out from a corner office. It was figured out at the card table, by a guy who was scared, behind, and out of runway, and who needed every single message to count. Then it was sharpened for 15 years on real clients with real money on the line. That’s the thinking you’re getting.
